How to – Create a Dynamics 365 Trial instance and upgrade it to 2024 Release Wave 1

Microsoft has launched 2024 release wave 1 on 1^st of April which includes new applications and as well as around 400 new features across both Dynamics 365 sales and Power Platform.

Considering Covid-19 outbreak, Microsoft has delayed the deprecation of legacy web client by 2 months to December also the mandatory upgrade is also pushed by one month, i.e. May instead of April.

In this article you will learn how to create Dynamics 365 trial and how to upgrade it to the 2024 Release Wave 1.

To create the Dynamics 365 Trial

Navigate to trial portal https://trials.dynamics.com/

Select the Dynamics 365 App, here we are selecting Sales app to begin with.
To create the trail either you can use your work email or you can use your personal email id.

To use your personal email id, click on Sign up here link and select No, continue signing up option

Provide the appropriate details and click on Next to start the setup
Specify the username along with domain id and password. Give the consent as appropriate and click on Create my account.
In the next screen, you would need to provide your phone number wherein either you can receive the code or an SMS.
Click on Set up to start the setup
Click on appropriate app and specify the currency and complete the setup.
The set-up process will start.
The setup should complete take around 5 minutes or so.
Click on Sales Hub to open it.

Inside Sales Hub, click on Settings gear and select about option to check the version.
Now to upgrade it to the 2024 release wave 1, you need to go to the power platform administration web site.

Go to Environments and open the environment to be upgraded
Inside the Updates section, click on Manage
Click on Update now to update the environment to the latest version.
As an additional verification, it will ask you to enter the environment’s name.
Enter the environment’s name and click on Confirm.

It will start the update process.
You can refresh the page to see the update status
Once the update is complete, you can open the environment, select any of the app.
Here we have opened the Sales Hub app.

You can click on Settings gear and click on about to see it updated to the latest version i.e. 2024 Release wave 1.
